Sleep is a routine daily activity that must be done. Sleep has the benefit of maintaining a healthy body, helping to restore health, boosting the immune system, improving memory and thinking power and other benefits.
Sleeping well every night is not only determined by good sleep patterns and the right mattress, but can be influenced in terms of choosing a sleeping pillow. Choosing the wrong pillow not only makes sleeping uncomfortable, but can also cause muscle injuries, especially the neck and shoulder muscles. The effect is that after waking up, instead of feeling refreshed and energized, the body actually feels sore and stiff.
The term 'Wrong Pillow' appeared. Wrong pillow is a common name for Indonesian people to describe the condition of a stiff neck after waking up. This term arises because the cause is often associated with the wrong position of the pillow while sleeping.
When the position of the body or the pillow used is not right during sleep all night, it makes the muscles tense. After waking up you will feel a stiff neck, sometimes accompanied by pain. This condition can slow down body movements and interfere with daily activities.
Apart from the wrong pillow, the feeling of pain throughout the body when you wake up can also be caused by the sleeping position you take. The wrong sleeping position then causes injury to certain muscle parts
Let's get to know some sleeping positions that can injure the muscles!
1. Prone position
The prone position can not only cause damage to the spine, this position can also make the neck continue to rotate and the body is stressed, so that breathing circulation becomes poor.
2. Fetal Position
This position can cause neck and back pain. Sleeping in this position also puts strain on the back and waist, especially if your knees and chin are tucked in to your chest.
3. Tilt Position
Sleeping on your side is good, but it can be bad if you do it for too long. This position can cause pain in the shoulders and arms because of pressure on the nerves and blood flow is not smooth. This sleeping position is also the initial cause of frozen shoulder and tingling hands constantly.
4. Sleeping position with arms folded
As with the side position, the habit of sleeping with your arms folded in front of your chest or stomach can also cause muscle tension in the shoulders, arms, and chest and stomach muscles.
5. Sleep with a high pillow
Sleeping with your head elevated can cause hyperflexion and a pulled neck. As a result, the shoulder and neck muscles will be tense and cause various problems such as upper back pain and neck pain.
So in order to always be fit after a night's sleep, choose a pillow and adjust your sleeping position well. If you feel a muscle injury, remedial massage can relieve and restore.
